One of Girard’s biggest attractions is the Lake Erie Community Park, a 125-acre park offering walking paths throughout the park, as well as a new playground, pavilions for parties and get-togethers, and charcoal grills. Also located nearby is Erie Bluffs State Park, a 587-acre park and the largest undeveloped stretch of Erie shoreline, with 90-foot bluffs overlooking the water. Here, picnicking, hunting, fishing, and boating are popular pastimes.

Victorian estates and quaint craftsman homes make up the neighborhoods in Erie County’s Girand suburb. Main Street cuts right through the town and serves as a hub for many of the town’s shops and retailers. Rice Avenue connects with Main Street and takes drivers through Lake City toward Lake Erie.

Amongst the best districts in the Erie area, Girard School District caters to just over 1,550 students and features a considerably reduced lunch. The district encompasses three schools - Elk Valley Elementary School, Rice Avenue Middle School, and Girard High School. Private schools like Erie First Christian Academy offer parents a choice for their child’s education.


Downtown Girard and the municipality provide many jobs to residents, as does the stretch of retailers and eateries along Main Street going in and out of town. Norfolk Southern transportation support is among the largest employers for Girard residents. Others drive into Erie and nearby townships like Lake City to take advantage of the flood of tourists traveling to experience Lake Erie.
