Discover Lake Erie:

Summer Fun on Presque Isle

No summer visit to Erie is complete without a trip to Presque Isle State Park! Before you start planning your visit, check out some favorite summer events and activities to ensure you make the most of your little vacation!

9 Things to Do at Presque Isle State Park in Summer

Go to the Beach

Presque Isle's 11 miles of pristine sandy shoreline are definitely among the park's top attractions. There are several beaches, each with their own amenities, and it's not hard to find activities, events, and classes—such as yoga, volleyball, frisbee, or beach cleanups—going on all summer long. Or, if you'd rather relax, swim, or hunt beach glass on your own, that's just fine, too.

Eat Beach Food

No trip to the beach is complete without a trip to Sara’s. Though it's not technically part of the park, Sara's has been named an essential stop by visitors and locals alike. The favorite fare? A Smith's hot dog. Other top picks are their milkshake and twist cone.

Fly a Kite at Sunset Point

Known informally as "Kite Beach", Sunset Point is a popular destination for kite flyers of all kinds. Whether you want to fly your own kite or merely appreciate the highly unique flyers in the sky, you'll be glad you stopped by. After dark, the kite-flying experience includes neon lights and candles.

Bike Presque Isle

One of the best ways to see the park is by bike. And one of the best trails for bikers is the 13-mile Multipurpose Trail, which loops around the perimeter of the park, offering truly astonishing views all along the way. Those without bikes can rent, and the Erie Outing Club regularly offers bike tours and groups.

Explore the Lagoons

Because they're not reachable by car, the lagoons are a quieter mystery of the park. Bring your boat, kayak, or canoe to discover the unique flora and fauna of Presque Isle's secluded and scenic lagoons. Rentals are also available, or if you want a guided tour, Lagoon by Pontoon offers several trip options.

Discover the North Pier and Its Lighthouse

Though not as well-known as the more popular Presque Isle Lighthouse (also worth a visit), the North Pier Lighthouse offers truly spectacular views of the park often not seen from the main roads, making it a definite must-see.

Relax at the Sunset Concert Series

Held every Wednesday evening at Beach 1, the Sunset Music Series is a great way to relax, unwind, and enjoy great music, food, and refreshments. Bring a chair, a towel, and your appetite; Food Truck Wednesday is also happening in the same location!

Hike a New Trail

Take a guided tour of the island or set off on your own for an entirely new adventure. There are many trails through the wilderness and along the beaches of the park, offering routes of various length, difficulty, and terrain. No matter what level of adventurer you may be, you're sure to find a suitable hiking excursion.

Attend "Discover Presque Isle"

The annual three-day Discover Presque Isle celebration is possibly #1 on our Presque Isle Bucket List. During the celebration, the park explodes with life, activity, and events, from sand sculptures to kites to canoe-building. There’s a duathlon for runners and bikers, a vendor alley, and even a Craft Show. Definitely something you don't want to miss, if you can find your way to Presque Isle in late July!
